I Forgot that Allergies Bring Headaches...

... so my "regular" headaches plus these spring allergy headaches are BOATLOADS of fun! Ughhh. The only good thing about my allergies this year is that they didn't start up as early as they have in the past, so that was a good thing. Last week, I started feeling a little itchiness in the eye area and stuffiness in the schnozzz area, so I figured, "time to hit up the drug store for some Claritin!" I probably didn't say it with an exclamation point... especially since allergy meds are basically $1.00 per pill these days. Luckily, I had some Claritin tabs leftover from last year, so I started off with those. I was not getting any relief, of COURSE. I asked the pharmacist what she'd recommend, and she said to try Zyrtec... and YAY it works!
The only downside I'm experiencing, however, is the drowsiness... because, of course, it's not like I'm not already having enough drowsiness from my headache meds to cause me to take a "stay awake!!!" medication. I even took 2 pills worth of my "stay awake!!!" med yesterday and I was still exhausted.
Anyways, is anyone else out there in Headacheland that is experiencing worsened headaches during allergytime??

i don't have worse migraines/headaches due to allergies, but i know others who do. i'm curious about your stay awake medicine. is this something other than coffee or coke? :)

Haha... It really just should be written on the prescription sheet as "STAY AWAKE!!!" It's called Provigil, and I believe that the major use for it is for people who work weird hours and need to readjust the hours that they are awake/asleep. I've just been taking 100 mg... I have been stopping at Dunkin Donuts more often, haha. I am quite a fan of the Mocha Coffee Coolattas ;-) They don't even seem to give too much of a boost of course, but if I can kinda trick my mind into thinking it does, I'll take it!

Oh, yes, allergies & headaches, and then the headaches morph into migraines - lovely! I'm there. I take Zyrtec too, but I take it at night before bed, along with my melatonin, to help put this hyper-active migraine mind to sleep.

Hope it all clears up for you soon!

OH yes, I always get one huge pollen migraine every March that I cannot bust until I remember that it's probably a pollen migraine. I treat it with a good antihistamine and it goes away. XD.

Claritin always made my head hurt but Zyrtec I LOVE. I have to take mine at 6pm or 7pm so I won't wake the next morning drowsy but I've only had to take it twice this year. *crosses fingers*

Okay - I just went into the pharmacy and found... generic Zyrtec! Hooray thought I and bought the $11 package of 14 pills. Then my obsessive mind did the math and figured out I saved .05 per pill... oh well, adds up I guess.

This time of year seems worse for a lot of migraineurs. I don't personally deal with allergies, but the stormy weather can be a doozy for me.

I know you wrote this in the spring, but fall allergy season is getting me this year! It is making my NDPH worse than usual, which really stinks, because I normally look forward to the drier fall season. Ah, well. Always something new. :)
